One of my favorite things to do is to take I-15 north, get off at Beaver Dam-Littlefield exit. Take a drive on old Highway 91, then left through the Shivwits Paiute Reservation to the reservoir at Gunlock State Park, about a 45 minute drive from Mesquite. I actually stumbled upon this great little lake when I took a wrong turn while looking for the Kayenta subdivision on the way to Santa Clara, Utah. The scenery is absolutely beautiful, no matter what time of year it is.
Great place to get some sun, go fishing, camping or just sit around and enjoy the view.
The lake is pretty high right now, submerged trees and bushes. I was waiting for the sun to set and get a great shot, when a kayak appeared and set out across the lake. What a great way to end the day - for me and for him!

Kayak on the lake at Gunlock State Park in Utah - about 45 minutes from Mesquite NV - a great afternoon!

Mona - me, too! One day, last year I took about 50 shots of cactus blooming with a car full of buyers - they took a lot of pics, too, and sure got to know Mesquite. ;]
Virginia, some of my favorite photo ops have happened after a wrong turn an exploratory drive. It doesn't matter if there are clients in the car or not.
Virginia - Great shot and those unexpected photo opportunites are often the most memorable.
Virginia, don't you love it? This is a gorgeous shot and you couldn't have planned it better if you tried! Your land is so ruggedly beautiful in Nevada.

Virginia, everything about this sounds so relaxing!
Virginia - when we lived in the Bronx, I found a few excellent places by making wrong turns.
Norma - my best shots are the unexpected ones. :)
Sharon, the terrain is so varied, I love my little drives - Gunlock is not too far for impulsive me.
Connie - I go there to sit around and enjoy the beauty of lake - never even been fishing there. Or kayaking. :)
Jon, I have been making wrong turns all of my life - never get bored!

I want to thank you personally for your offer to be a mentor to me. I have elected to work with Kathleen Daniels but truly appreciative of your reaching out to me. Sure looks like a God's country type of place where you live. cheers Curtis Van Carter
