Eureka Casino Christmas Party for Employees - Mesquite Nevada

Every year at Christmas, the Eureka Casino in Mesquite NV throws a party for their employees and their guests.  Employees can bring their whole family and it is a great time - great for the kids who get to see Santa and get a nice gift, as well as enjoy the good food and drink - all provided by the Eureka Casino.  Great for mom and dad, too - they get to enjoy themselves and not cook or clean up the mess.

My daughter invited me as her guest and personal photographer and I had a great time, too.  I exceeded my personal best for number of trips to the buffet table, too.  Pretty proud of that.  :)

Eureka Casino is one of Mesquite's major employers - and many employees have worked there for a long time.  It is a fun place to work and they provide very good benefits for their workers - health insurance, vacation pay.

And one more little fringe benefit - the Eureka Christmas Party for the families.  Really nice to treat your employees like a VIP - and the owner, Greg Lee, was there to welcome everyone to the party.

One of the stars in this video is my newest grandson, Ryder.  He had a blast!  He may get me on residuals, though, I should probably check his contract before I make these videos.

Ence Homes Mesquite NV - Trailside new construction - early completion

New Ence homes in the Trailside subdivision in Mesquite NV - finished early and the buyers have already moved in, with a lot of help from their new neighbors.  Quite a few people showed up to help unload the truck and the whole thing only took about 1/2 hour.  Is that a record for a quick move in?

Randy, Mary and their son, Matt came from South Dakota looking for an existing home, but we couldn't find just the right house with a swimming pool.  Most folks assume that we have lots of pools here, but that just isn't so.  Then we looked for homes with a pool-sized lot - we do have some of those here.  But we still could not find a house that they really liked.

They did like the Trailside subdivision - near Hughes middle school and several of our pet friendly parks in Mesquite.  So I called John Johnson from Ence Homes and he met us at the model home.  No - that home was not quite what they wanted.  John suggested a floor plan that was used in one of the Ence subdivisions in the St George, Utah area.

After a quick trip to see the existing model, Randy. Mary and Matt were ready to pick their upgrades and design choices.  Ence Homes in Mesquite NV  has a terrific design center in St George with all of the choices laid out.  You can actually see what you are getting when you plan a home.  You end up with a custom home.

A week later, we were at the design center - fun, but a long day!  Then the folks were off to South Dakota, leaving me here to build their home for them.  :)

Well, actually, I did not do any of the actual building - but checked on the house as it was being built and got updates at least once a week from John, who took pictures of the different stages of construction for the buyers.  The home was finished almost a month early and we had to hustle to get the VA loan approved and all the paperwork in.  But we did it.

And it is a beauty.  Next step is the heated swimming pool.

Mesquite Police Department will be blocking off Yucca Street next to City Hall on Monday from 5:30 to 7:00 pm for the fourth annual Mesquite Trunk or Treat party. 

Local businesses and residents have volunteered donations, as well as their time to pass out Halloween candy to all the "little monsters" who attend.

With so many gated communities and second homes in Mesquite, not all neighborhoods here are ghost and goblin friendly.  Many of our snowbirds haven't arrived for the winter yet.

Mesquite's Trunk or Treat is a great way for kids to celebrate my favorite holiday in a fun and safe place.


Although I live in a 55 plus active adult community, I still stock up on Halloween candy - just in case I get a bunch of kids trick or treating at my door.  If not, I will be forced to eat the leftovers.  Again.  Can't wait!

Mesquite Nevada Custom Home - Sold in 30 Days

Another Mesquite Nevada custom home sold in 30 days - the good ones go quick!  This home was in one of the higher price ranges of MLS listings here, they do not get as many showings as the lower priced homes in our area.  Yet the higher end homes that were previously on the market for a long time are starting to sell.  Could be a sign of the real estate recovery in several neighborhoods in Mesquite.

Buyers are looking at homes online and coming to Mesquite with a list of homes to see, only to find that many of them are already pending sales when they get here.

Fruits and Vegetables Grow in Mesquite NVGlad it sold quickly, but I am a little disappointed that I did not get to go over and help myself to some of the figs and grapes that were about to be ripe for the picking.

The home was vacant, so picking the fruit from the trees would be part of my listing maintenance, right? 

And yes, fruits and vegetables do grow in Mesquite Nevada - even with the desert climate and very little rain.  We do have automatic sprinkler and drip systems.  :)

The escrow period went well.  All 4 days of it!  It was a trustee sale, but we got the offer and signatures on Thursday and opened escrow.  This was another cash sale with no appraisal or loan to wait for, so we were able to close quickly, but the buyer requested 30 days to close escrow in the contract.

Mr Buyer called on Monday and said, 'Let's close it today!'  We couldn't quite accommodate him, but we did manage to close on Tuesday.  It is a little easier to get things done when there is No Homeowner Association in this neighborhood.  Getting the HOA demands and records can take up to 10 days.

So now the new owner of this lovely custom home gets to harvest the crops!

Sun City Mesquite 55 + Communities - Split Rail Subdivision Homes for Sale

Sun City Mesquite Nevada is an active adult community for 55 + residents.  Within the Pulte master community are several subdivisions - and each neighborhood has it's own personality, Split Rail is one of the first 2 completed.  The amenities included in the low HOA fee of $120 are one of the reasons that so many people are buying a second home or retirement home in Nevada.

Under New Recommendations Military to Have Pay and Benefits Cut

Budget Cuts for Military pay and medical benefits!  Stop the madness!

Please write your representatives and let them know that military personnel deserve more, not less.

  • They don't need to be underpaid and still be required to pay for their own health care.
  • They don't need to be underpaid and still be made targets.
  • They don't need to be underpaid and still come back from deployment different people than they were when they left.
  • They don't deserve to be underpaid and over exploited.

Shades of the 70's, when military personal became the primary targets of cost savings. Pay increases were deferred, certain types of pay were eliminated, enlisted men were declared unworthy of a steak dinner every other week, etc.

Now, to meet President Obama's proposed budget reductions for defense, the joint chiefs, along with Defense Secretary Gates are suggesting that a large portion of that come from pay and benefit reductions. Especially targetted, apparantly, will be both retired and currently serving health care benefits.

Apparantly, giving up a host of constitutional rights (yes, when you are in the military you abrogate some of the rights accorded to non-military), and placing their lives and livelihood in jeopardy for the country are not worth what is currently being provided in pay and benefits to these men and women. It appears that having to give up personal freedoms and agreeing to follow the often arbitrary and sometimes foolish directions of "superiors" at risk of loss of all freedoms is not worth what is currently being provided in pay and benefits to these men and women.

It appears that the military, especially the enlisted and lower ranking officers, is going to revert back to the status it was during the Viet Nam era, under appreciated and under paid.

While this administration has no problem taking away money from one group to give to another, while it has no problem seeing that unions get more power and higher wages, while it has no problem taking private corporations and handing large portions of them over to unions, it has problems with equitable compensation to those who's lives it places in harms way.

Pet Friendly Mesquite Nevada

Mesquite is a pet friendly place - People asking about relocation to Mesquite NV might ask if their pets will be welcome, too.  If you are thinking of buying a home, all subdivisions allow pets, subject to restrictions on rental property.  If you are thinking of renting a home, the owner may or may not allow pets.  If pets are allowed in rentals, there will usually be a pet deposit or a slight increase in rent.

There are many pet friendly parks in Mesquite - most of our many public parks allow pets and have pet stations with plastic bags and disposal cans.  There are benches to sit on, but you cannot take your dog off the leash.

All of the Mesquite walking trails allow pets - so take your dog, if you have one, pets must be on a leash, and you must pick up after them.  Many of the walking paths are lighted at night - handy in the summer when it might be too hot for you or your pet to walk in the afternoon.  Bring your own doggie bags.

Walking pets in neighborhoods is fine, too - you can walk them in any subdivision or on any city street, as long as they are on a leash - you do have to pick up after them, anywhere in Mesquite.

Pet Friendly Hotels in Mesquite - we have several hotels and motels that will allow pets - book early on holidays and weekends, most charge an extra fee for pets.

Mesquite NV Home Inspections - let the inspector do his job

Mesquite NV Home Inspections - the Inspector will show you what the homeowner may not even know about his house.  You may think you are pretty handy around the house, but you may not know about local code, recent local issues in a neighborhood, or even if a drain is clogged or just slow.  Best to get a home inspection - it costs several hundred $$, but worth every dime.

Residential Home inspections include running all of the appliances in the home, usually all at the same time, checking electrical outlets, air conditioning, fixtures - anything that the inspector can check without damaging the home.  He may recommend further inspection if he finds something not working, like AC or Heat - if he finds mold, he will recommend a mold inspection.
