As a Mesquite NV real estate agent, I am always looking for new ways to bring attention to my listings in Mesquite NV. Instead of using a listing address url rider on my For Sale sign, I wanted to try something different. At first I ordered listing sign riders from my regular company that just said 'Google This!'
'Google This!' Hmm... It sounded a little too Paul Slaybaugh-ish from someone of my age stature. So I called back and changed it to 'Google This Address.' Ahh...pure genius!
Anyone who drives by any of my properties for sale will get the idea to google the address and get to see all of the ads and blogs from all of the sites that I have it on - not just one website for the property. After all, this is what I tell my sellers to do if they want to see what all I have been doing to promote their property for sale - 'Google your address and you will see several pages of promotions, all with pictures and slide shows.'
Oh-Oh! The sign company called back and said that they didn't think it was legal to use the word 'Google' without permission.
What?!!! Isn't the word 'google' a verb? We say it all the time. We don't say 'Yahoo this' - doesn't that just sound silly? 'Yahoo' doesn't sound like a verb, 'Google' does!
The sign company said they had to do some checking - I think they called Lenn Harley to get the Hard Core facts about copyright infringement. Finally, they called back and said 'OK, we can do it - your signs will be ready in a week.'
Now I have Creative, Colorful and Cute sign riders on my listings to make them stand out from all of the other regular old for sale signs - the 3 Cs! They have a little TM next to the word 'Google' and they used the google colors. My sellers love it.
The first property for sale that I put the sign rider on was my listing at 880 Tucson St - I already get good Google results from my Active Rain listing blog with the slide show from Real Estate Shows and lots of other online property ads, but I want potential buyers to see everything I have written about the property.
I will be watching my Google (noun?) Alerts - I'll let you know how it works!
What are you doing to make your listings stand out in a sea of for sale signs? Let us know with a link to one of your Ar blogs in a comment here - I would love to see what you are doing to help sell your properties.

So Virginia, when you googled the address did it have a virtual tour too?
Hi Gary, I use Jeff Turner's Real Estate Shows. I like the slide show that pans in or out like a movie. It is so easy and they come out so professional and load so quickly on the page, I have found that actual virtual tours load so slowly that I am afraid of losing the reader. Especially if they have a short attention span like mine.
Happy New Year!
VIrginia,
The sign is defnitely interesting. Google crowd will notice it immedeately. I am not sure how big is the Google crowd, but I think it is still the largest piece of the pie, so it should be a pretty safe bet.
Keep us posted.
Jon, HOAs are so restrictive on signage - you can usually just have one basic sign, so I wanted something that I could add to the sign.
I think the Google crowd is growing fast and any edge that I can give my sellers is a bonus.
What a great out of the box advertising idea! I don't know why I didn't think of it and I think I have something to add next year to my listings.
Thanks for the idea,
Virginia, this has been on my list for ages, but I couldn't figure out what I wanted the signs to look like. Yours are perfect!!!
Great idea. Now as you drive around everyone will have one.
Virginia: I like your original approach. "Google this address" is definitely eye catching and it is a good idea to show your clients how much information you have on the internet about their property. You are covering all the bases. Please let us know how this works out for you.
Virginia, that is a great strategy - very powerful and simple. And bold ! The competitor may not have much going on at all when you type in someone else's address that is on the market. I think this will also become common when a seller thinks about listing a property as they will google a few agents name to see what they have going on as well as googling an address to see the marketing.
You asked for a link in terms of what other rainers do. I try to get one listing blog in per week where we put a listing on our blog and add other links to go to from there. I will take that blog and have it automatically go to ousidein as well as posting it on Trulia as well.
Northern Liberties Listing Let me know what you think ! Chris and Stephanie Somers
Great idea. Love the out-of-the-box thinking. A great use of long tail marketing.
Great idea! I think I will try that on my next listing too! Thanks for sharing it.
Virgina: Great idea for a sign rider. Congratulations on your feature.
Here is a sign rider I like to use.
Sounds like a great idea. I am trying to find a way to increase leads also. Thanks for the tip.
Great idea, Virginia -
For condo buildings, however, it might lead them to another listing agent in that building - but most of these condos don't use signs anyway.
Thanks so much for the tip.
ROLAND from TN - Like your idea for a sign as well!
DEAN & DEAN'S TEAM CHICAGO
Dean: It does generate calls. I like the Google sign too..
Virgina Hepp, that is perfect outside the box thinking and marketing. It is the way success will be manifested in the coming years and it will dramtaically change the way we do business....well done!
Bo
What company did the signs? I would like to get some for my self. The only problem with that is once I do the printing company will show all the other agents in my office.
Great idea. Keep us updated on what sort of traffic it generates.
Virginia - I love this idea. I think I am going to give it a try here in Sacramento! Thanks!
Ok this is cool!! Now try this See MyListings@www.iwannatrade.com and have all your listings at one place not mixed with others!!! If your are doing bank repo do yourself a favor google " hot repo" see my blogs at the top. Together if you blog and I blog about your real estate This will give more views but mostly put at the top.
Remember only limited people drive by a signed listing, I have hundreds that visit my site and you can put a counter on your ads. Put all your addresses of any properties your have, you cnn do it as an agent or as an office/broker. I have three ways I started marketing my site 6 yrs ago, Real Estate being One of Them!!

Roland, I really like that sign rider. I put the property URL on a rider at the top of the sign. There are so many numbers and names and people are just driving by. My thinking is that if only one phone number, the Realtor's name, company and put the rider at the top - that hits all areas when it comes to the DISC personality. For those who don't want to write, I have property fliers with the property URL, my contact information but no price. I do say, call for the "latest pricing information"
It's KISS - street address: www.5110Claremont.com - this url doesn't exist anymore. But it's simple.
If you create a separate web page for each of your listings and show the status of it, even when it closes - google picks you up! So, Google takes you more seriously if you save a URL for 3 years, better for 5 years. Why not save your name for 10 years?
To put up: 5110N.Claremont-2.com - nobody in their right mind is going to be able to remember it. Keeping it Simple -
Condominium Buildings - Dean mentioned that one - why not get the condominium name for the building and reserve it a long time? Everytime someone Googles for that information - guess who pops up?
Good idea -- we all have to do everything possible to get people inside the homes.
Google This Address is definitely forward thinking marketing. We don't have sign posts in Manhattan, but if we did I would use that for sure.
I love the idea. I hope it works for you. I am looking for to the results blog.
Virginia: Please do share when you get these made..
Barb: I use the .info as these are currently .99 and most paid is 1.99
Great idea. Simple, clean, and everyone can remember it. Particularly great for the neighbors!
Viriginia, you're a genius! Before I created riders with Property's website but now I will add something else I think:) Thanks!
You rang? ;)
That is a great idea! I would wonder also about using the name Google but at least they checked on it. Totally out of the box idea! Thanks for sharing.
Wow! Gold Star - who do I get to thank for that?
Todd, thanks for the compliment, especially since you are the king of 'out of the box marketing'.
Lisa, get some, they really stand out with those Google colors.
Gene, yes, I expect to see some duplicate signage. :)
Michelle - I am watching my Google alerts, will let you know in about a week - of course, it is so slow here.
Chris and Stephanie - that is a beautiful listing flyer you did there, fantastic photos - Vflyer?
Jonathan - thank you, this blog is already on the first page of Google for Mesquite NV Homes for sale, love Active Rain!
Vicki - the sign company charged the same as for my regular name + number riders - get some yourself!
Roland - I like your sign better! It lets people know that they can see it anytime - one great thing about our little town is that I am literally 5 minutes away from everything.
Gayle (Best Spot) - Hoping I get more leads from it - I will let you all know.
Dean - Barb's idea on condominium buildings is a good one...the url with the building name and then an AR blog with it in the title - let us know if you try it.
Bo, thanks! I'll try anything once. Or twice. Or 20 times. I just need one buyer to buy that house. :)
Jeff - I will call the sign company on Monday and see if they would mind if I put their contact info here. I have a feeling they will say OK - maybe I can get pricing and shipping, too.
I love your sign! The younger generation just unstands you can "Google" anything these days, however others do not. Like you, I don't care how my listing sells. It's my job to drive traffic to the home and create a buzz. Your little "Google" sign can't hurt.
Michael - I will update with results - this blog is on first page of Google already for Mesquite NV Homes - that is a great result!
Lori - I grew up in Sacramento, Carmichael. I hear that there are lots of For Sale signs there. Let us know if it works for you.
Jon - Very interesting site! Isn't that how Craigslist got started?
Barb - your condo idea is a good one. That Claremont url - looks great, I think you are right about the long term url, Google juice lasts a long time. More so in my area where most agents are not internet marketing, less competition for me and my stuff. I am getting some of Roland's riders, too.
Bob and Carolyn - that is the idea - get the word out - in this case, the word is Google. :)
Morgan - signs here are huge, but I guess in a big city it wouldn't be an option.
Mindy & Jay - check back here for results!
Roland - thanks for the mention on your post showcasing your sign rider - and the email - love it.
David - the neighbors might like my marketing ideas?
Olena - easy to remember - they can just jot down the address, or grab a flyer.
Thea - it took the company a week to decide it is legal/appropriate, I hadn't even thought of that aspect.
What a great idea and thanks for sharing. I wonder if it would be better to put on top of the 4x4 where name riders go.
Paul, just to let you know the children are fine. I knew it was you, the caller ID said, 'Lunatics, Inc.'
Charles - I have some other sign frames where the rider slides on the top - thanks, I think I will try that on one.
Peggy - the young ones probably already know to just Google it. :) I am one of the older ones who need direction!
That is the best thing I have heard in months. Brilliant. I have been trying to think of other avenues....yet this is so simple
Virginia, What a wonderful idea. You are really on the cutting edge in your thinking!
I didn't see what the companies name was listed above.
It seems that a lot of people are waiting for that, me included.
You would think that Google tm would love that you were promoting them, wouldn't you?
Your AR Friend,

Tim, sometimes the simple things are the best. Not all of my ideas are good, but I keep thinking!
Ed, I am going to call them tomorrow and get their info and permission to put it here, and also to order some of Roland's signs. Check back.
Virgina,
I don't know exactly how craigslist started but I started iwannatrade.com over 6 years ago, the technology to build the stuff I have on my site was not around even 3 years ago.. It is the first of it's kind, three sites in one, free classifieds - with extended paid, trades - trade anything like college books, houses, dresses, cars for bikes etc, auctions - flat fees no percentage taken from your sale, when a bid is placed in the last minute we add 60 seconds, the auction will go on and on as long as bids are being placed the only true online auction.
A lot more but if you think about it and open a store put all your listings and use the three platforms to market your listings it will bring more people to you. I have a bunch of friends near you fire police clark county. Any questions feel free to call 909-499-8076 I would love to have you get started soon. I used to have about 160 homes listed on iwannatrade but they sold and I just keep offering this to all my networking sites. Thanks Keep Up The Good Work!! Changes have already started in real estate people shop online. Be online SO they can find you!!
Holy spamoli.
Virginia, what a great creative idea! I wonder if that'll work for Twitter too? Anyway, looking forward to hearing about the results.
Fabulous idea. I love it! I just ordered name riders with my cell number, "Google" this address will be next.
Thanks for sharing,
Great out of the box thinking!!! Great for Listing Presentations also!!! Supports an Internet dominance in today's market where most people start out looking for a home on their own!!
I LOVE THIS Virginia! I always give people addresses to google in the listing presentation so why not this!!
Thanks for the idea. Google should sell their own riders and you should present them with the idea so this doesn't happen to everyone!
Company who made the signs is:
Star Signs
St George Utah
435-628-7806
sales@starsignonline.com
12.50 each for 5 or more (quantity order would receive a higher discount)
plus shipping charges
Jon, thanks.
Paul, yes, I am blessed.
Regina - what do you mean work with Twitter? I am a novice on Twitter - 'Twitter This Address'?
Fran - I have office #, my cell #, now the Google - every little thing matters in this market.
Sergio - yes, it lets sellers know that I do have internet dominance!
Renee - glad you like it - you have given me many ideas.
Your hired! I just happen to have an empty desk. Do I have to contact anyone to get permission to use your idea?
Larry, thanks! Permission granted! Actually, you don't need permission to use someone's ideas here, that is why we share them - help yourself.
Viginia - What a terrific idea! Good for you for not giving up.
Tom - I never give up! :)
Virginia - Thank you for posting this! I just came back again after another long absence and I pick up an extremely valuable tidbit. Thank you!
Happy New Year!
Mark! Glad to see you - hope you so busy, and that is the reason you haven't been around! Check out Roland's post, too, he has some great marketing ideas.
Jon - Happy New Year to you, too! Oh! Tonight is New Years Eve - where is my party hat?
It is a great idea to Google the address, and something you can pass on to your clients as well.
Sharon, thanks, my clients are amazed at how much I have on the internet about their listings.
Great suggestion! I think it's great that you're doing something new & different. It will definitely generate interest!
Kevin/Monica - Thanks - I sure hope so.
Thanks for sharing. It's this kind of sharing that makes this community great!
Mary "B"
Austin, Texas
Mary B - I learned it here. :)
I suspect they could do it because you put Google in quotes. Makes all the difference in the world.
Hi Russel- Mesquite is small - there is not that much on the internet about it.- You don't even need the quotes. :)
Virginia: Well deserved feature! Great idea! Any updates on web traffic? I think your idea will be a great success. Keep us posted.
This looks like a good story for the newspaper... you may want to tell them about it and see if they feature you as well... you buzz builder you- that's awesome.
I really love this idea, it is cost efficient because it works with every address. I think we have to keep cost-efficiency in mind this year more than ever.
Michelle - I have had lots in increases to my website and blog in the last few weeks - new visitors from different sources - it is great!
Chuck - 'Buzz' is the word!
Chris and Karen - It is very cost effective, and if someone googles the address, they will see lots of stuff on each listing.
Thanks Virginia! I just ordered my "Google this address" sign riders all the way out here in CA!
