When I first got my real estate license in 1985 in Fairfield Ca, I scheduled 4 interviews for 1 day with the 4 brokers that I thought I might want to work for.
You know the old saying - Dress for the part you want to play!
So I went to the mall and bought the perfect Interview for a Real Estate Agent Dress, new not-too-high Real Estate
Agent Heels, a small professional Real Estate Agent Purse, a new gold Real Estate Agent Pen, gold hoop Real Estate Agent Earrings, and a simple gold Real Estate Agent Necklace.
I had my long curly hair cut in a shoulder length layered Real Estate Agent Style.
I had my shiny new Real Estate Agent Briefcase with pens, pencils, paper, folders, breath fresheners, calculator, candy bars - all the things that would prove that I was a real estate agent ready to go to work.
Oh, yes, I carried the briefcase with me to the interviews - what professional real estate agent doesn’t carry a briefcase to be prepared at all times?
All 4 interviews went really well. All 4 brokers were obviously impressed by my poise and potential - how could they not be ? I knew I looked like a professional real estate agent.
I went home and set my Real Estate Agent Purse and my Real Estate Agent Briefcase on my dresser and decided to change clothes before dinner - I couldn’t risk spilling barbecue sauce on my new Real Estate Agent Dress.
As I stood before the mirror, I turned and looked again at the perfect real estate agent image just one more time.
The first thing I noticed was that I had forgotten to take the price tags off the Perfect Real Estate Agent Dress - they were all hanging down the back of my sleeve.
That red $19.99 sale tag really stood out!

Virgina,
Thanks for the laugh!
I always liked Mine Peral, I hope the brokers did to.
Bill
Karen - I didn't stay at the one I picked very long, I made a bad choice for me. But I found a really great one later who put me in the right direction. I have loved real estate ever since.
Bill - I laughed later, but I was mortified at the time!
Chuck - I will NEVER forget it.
Katerina - I asked one broker about it later - she didn't notice. (she said)
Liz - Perhaps they thought I was very "sales" oriented!
Gary - It is one of my favorite real estate stories! It was a BIG red tag - Close-out.
Christine - You and me and Minnie! Didn't you just want to hide somewhere?
Virginia, Thank you for the pic of Miss Minnie Pearl is that your new nickname? Great story thanx
Don R.
Viginia-
New Suit-Been There. Done that. Never again!
Steve
Virginia,
How funny! You started my day off right. Smiles are great but laughter is priceless. I'm sure you personality was so great no one noticed the tag!
Liz - I've already changed it 3 times - Brad Carroll made it easy!
Don - Thanks, I've been called worse.
Kris - I am sure there are a lot of embarrassing stories out there!
Jason - Thank you! My attention span only allows very short stories! I love the new look, too.
Steve - Those "dress up clothes" are long gone. Here, in Mesquite NV, we show homes in very casual clothes, most of the RE agents even wear shorts in the summer - it is HOT here.
Becky - I think I would have been hired if I were wearing my jammies - it was a pretty strong market and everybody needed more agents.
Bob - You would never have heard the end of it if you hadn't stopped her!
Virginia:
Very funny post and so true. My dress was red too. Ha. Just kidding.
Thesa - They all said they didn't notice the tags - I don't know how you could miss it.
Dave - It is really picking up here - we are getting buyers from all over the U.S. and Canada - still not as good as your market.
JL - Yes, it could have been worse. It is not the first time I have embarrassed myself in public! At least I wasn't wearing a toga. :)
Hi Virginia... Too funny! I believe that it's the embarrassing moments in our lives that give us character (or at least the funny stories we get to share!). LOL
My graphic word is "grumixameira"...what the heck is that?!
Lindsay - I never thought of that! I wonder if anyone thought I was doing that?
Bo - I must have a lot of character - I embarrass myself on a regular basis. That graphic word, 'grumixameira', is Latin for 'the glue that holds a transaction together". It applies to a good RE agent.
Virginia,
That sounds like something i would do. It's nice to know i'm not alone. I had the breif case too.
p.s. i only made it to the second cut. thanks for the good wishes though
Virginia,
I was trying to add you on my associates list, so I unscribed to yau to start ofer and now I can't even rescribe to you. What did I do?? Or more to the point what can I do?? I can't loose you!!
HAAAA! HAAAA! HEEEE! HEEEE! I am laughing so hard I woke up the dog !! (no not my husband) That is really funny !! I can picture you walking around head held high, cute red dress and a tag flittering around you with $19.99 on it. Haa haaa hee hee. We both have our moments,Our stories are alot alike huh sis.
I just noticed: we both area wearing red suits in our pictures. The difference is I am not wearing a tag on mine
When you have a open house wear your price tag and add a HUGE RED TAG on the garage door and say "RED TAG SALE ON THIS HOME JUST FOR TODAY ONLY"
Windy - Hey, sis, OK - rub it in! I will mail you a nice red sale tag so you can be just like me.
Great idea with the Red Tag Sale at an open house! Have you done that?
VIRGINIA: I have not done the red tag sale yet. I was emailed the idea from 1 of my clients while I was trying to sell her house. I will give it a try when the market doesn't have quite so many REO'S. Let me know if you are going to ok?
You are tooooo funny ! Add in a velvet Elvis picture and it might work !?!
WINDY - Do it! I double-dog dare you.
Patricia - We all have an occasional dressing snafu !
Heather - It is funny, now, at the time I was mortified!
Andy - I could write a book, Adventures of a Dork!
Great story, but 23 years later you are still in the business. Realtors have to roll with the punches.
All the best!
Virginia, I LROL, to funny. Good price though....
Kevin - Maybe that is why I am getting round - I roll so much! :)
Duane - 'Good Price?' I resemble that remark!
Virginia, I'm still chuckling this afternoon. Almost as bad as leaving the zipper down but not as revealing....
Duane - I missed this comment - better late than never? We all know that you have a great sense of humor - I hope those brokers did. :)
