Mesquite NV Halloween - Trunk or Treat on Monday Oct 31 2011

Mesquite NV Halloween Trunk or Treat - Monday Night Oct 31

Pretty scary!

Halloween in Mesquite NV trunk or treat

Mesquite Police Department will be blocking off Yucca Street next to City Hall on Monday from 5:30 to 7:00 pm for the fourth annual Mesquite Trunk or Treat party.

Local businesses and residents have volunteered donations, as well as their time to pass out Halloween candy to all the "little monsters" who attend.

With so many gated communities and second homes in Mesquite, not all neighborhoods here are ghost and goblin friendly.  Many of our snowbirds haven't arrived for the winter yet.

Mesquite's Trunk or Treat is a great way for kids to celebrate my favorite holiday in a fun and safe place.

Although I live in a 55 plus active adult community, I still stock up on Halloween candy - just in case I get a bunch of kids trick or treating at my door.  If not, I will be forced to eat the leftovers.  Again.  Can't wait!

Bocce Ball Courts Sun City Mesquite 55 + Community - Pioneer Recreation Center

Sun City Mesquite 55 + Community has the only bocce ball court around here - one of the many activities offered to residents at their Pioneer Recreation Center.  You can bring your own bocce balls or use one of the sets that the Rec Center provides for residents.  I thought that Bocce was a game, but is considered a sport by those who play it.  :)

Bocce Ball in Mesquite NVAccording to BocceBallRules.net - "Bocce is without a doubt one of the most exciting and enjoyable sports."  I have not played it yet, myself, but I am certainly looking forward to my first game.  I don't think I will need a lesson, just some practice if I want to win - like all sports, right?  I have watched some play and it really does look like fun.

"No matter your level of competition, the rules of bocce are relatively basic, and allow you to start playing and enjoying this wonderful game within minutes."

I do know that you have to keep the ball within the cement borders - This might be difficult for me - I never could color within the lines.

So ... I am not going to tell you how to play bocce - but when I do play it, I will make an exciting video for you all to enjoy.Sun City Mesquite Bocce Ball Courts

Mesquite NV Video

Enjoy this Video of Mesquite Nevada - showing some of our fabulous golf courses as well as a pretty good idea of what our little city looks like.  Many people drive through on I-15 and think that Mesquite is just a wide spot on the road.

But Mesquite is not a secret anymore!  With more golf courses per capita than any city in the U.S, golfers from all over the place visit our little city in Nevada.  Population is around 20,000 and growing.

This Mesquite NV Video from the Mesquite Real Estate Association gives you an idea of why over 1 million people visit our small city every year.  The first 30 seconds shows the entrances to some of our many gated and golf course subdivisions.  The next 4 minutes shows the rest of the city and surrounding areas.

Things to do near Mesquite NV - Huntsman World Senior Games 2010

Huntsman World Senior Games ??  Seniors getting into sports competitions?  Of course we are - if you have been active all of your life, why stop when you turn 55 or better?  And if you haven't been active, maybe now is a good time to start exercising and enjoying it.  I am giving this advice as I am sitting on the couch.

When couch potatoes start to compete - I'm in!  But what would I wear?  :)

Erika Rogers - St George area Realtor

Erika Rogers is a St George Utah area Realtor with a terrific Active Rain blog about things to do in the St George area.

And why do I read her blog?  Because I live in a small town in Nevada - Mesquite, and St George is only 30 minutes away.

Mesquite is a great place to live, I love the small town atmosphere.  But we don't have Macy's or See's Candy (yet) - and I like to let people know that if we don't have it, it is not that far away and the drive is beautiful!

Via Erika Rogers St. George Utah Real Estate Specialist (Stout & Associates Realty-St. George UT):

St George UtahOn October 4, 2010 the Huntsman World Senior Games in St George Utah begins.  Not familiar with this event?  Many people aren't.  You'd be surprised to find out that this is the largest senior sports competition in the world according to our mayor, Dan McAarthur.

Hundreds  of seniors come from all over the world to compete in these games each year.  The games began in 1987 as the World Senior Games, an international competition.  Originally contestants had to be 55 or older to compete, they changed that requirement to 50 years old in 1988.  In 1989, Jon M. Huntsman of the Huntsman Corporation, became the principal sponsor for the games.  He  recognized the value of seniors staying active, and living a healthy lifestyle.  He also understood the financial impact this event could and would have on Utah.

In addition to the athletic events, there is always health screenings which include tests for breast and prostate cancer.  There is  also screenings for diabetes, glaucoma, high blood pressure and bone density to name a few. There's also a social side to these games.  Concerts, dances and award socials play an important role encouraging participants to mingle with each other.

Many participants come to compete in the Huntsman World Senior Games and find this area so inviting that they return to purchase a home here in St George Utah.  There's so much to do here, whether you enjoy bicycling, hiking, walking or golf.  And the weather is just about perfect, year round!

Be sure to check out the Huntsman Senior Games if you're in town.  The events run from October 4-16th, 2010. Opening ceremonies begin at 7:00pm on Tuesday, October 5, 2010.  They are being held at the Hansen Stadium, Dixie State College.  500 S. 700 E. St George Utah.  Admission is free.
